That moring the soldiers that one guy was mistaken and thats another false alarm. Henry is still worried about his courage and continues to watch his fellow comrades for any signs of self doubt.
The Whole regiment is enjoys itself when the fat soldier attempts to steal a horse but he got caught by a young girl who owned the horse. That would be pretty funny To watch a fat guy try and steal and a big animal like that and then get caught. Wilson indignantly claims that he would do his part in a battle and leaves Henry feeling even more alone, than he already does.
The next night you find exhausted soldiers marching through the dark forest. Henry worries that the enemy might appear at any moment. When the enemy fails to materialize, Henry returns to thinking that his regiment is nothing more than a blue demonstration. They hear the crack of distant gunfire, and the regiment begins to run. Yeah if i had heard gunfire through the night I would pack my crap and run too and try to find cover and then ambush them but thats just me. Boxed in by his fellow soldiers as the officers goad them toward the battle, Henry realizes that even if he wanted to run, the throng of surrounding soldiers would trample him.
